Phase 3: Program review

How does the whole program support the development of the program graduate attributes?

Aim

To build up an overview of how the whole program is contributing to the development of the program graduate attributes, ready for further analysis.

Process

Use the program mapping grid (see note below) to help you to map the program graduate attributes across your whole program. You may need consultation with or facilitation from TEDI for this phase.

The program mapping grid identifies the graduate attributes in the left hand column. You should keep in mind the translation of The University of Queensland generic graduate attributes you made in Phase 1. The grid shows the UQ 'generic' graduate attribute statements. Remember to change these into the relevant translated graduate attribute statements you have developed for your program. On the right hand side of the grid, you will find columns, each of which you will designate to a course offered by your Faculty or School. You may need to develop a grid to suit the course offerings of your program. For example, some Faculties or Schools offer more electives than the grid included provides space for. Using the data gathered in Phase 2, wherever a course contributes to the achievement of a program graduate attribute, indicate this by placing a mark (e.g. a cross 'x' or a tick 'tick') in the appropriate cell in the grid.

The resultant map will enable you to gain, at a glance, a sense of the current scope of support offered by the courses in your program for the development of each program graduate attribute.

Note:
The program mapping grid appearing in this package is an example only. You will have to develop a new one to cater for your specific needs.

Analysis

From the resultant map you will be able to note overburdening or gaps in the support provided for graduate attribute development in the courses and across the program. You will also be able to refer back to the maps from Phase 2, and, in conjunction with the map from Phase 3, look further to find whether program graduate attribute development is supported sequentially and developmentally across years and/or courses, and across the whole program.

This reflection will contribute to the translation of the program graduate attribute statements.

Note:
A program will, overall, provide support for the development of all program graduate attributes. Each course within a program makes a contribution to the overall development of program graduate attributes. This means that each course will not necessarily contribute to the development of all the program graduate attributes. The combined courses (i.e. the full program) will, however, contribute to the overall development of all the program graduate attributes.
