Workshops and support
TEDI and the UQ Graduate School provide a comprehensive range of staff development programs for all postgraduate advisors. Some of the programs offered include:
- Becoming an Effective Postgraduate Advisor series - designed for new or intending postgraduate advisors, although it also acts as a useful reflective practice exercise for experienced postgraduate advisors
- Postgraduate Studies Coordinators' Fora series - serves as a networking, strategy and policy development opportunity for staff with high levels of responsibility in the postgraduate research area.
For details about
the dates these programs are offered and to register go to the UQ
Staff Development website.
Learning circle
A learning circle on postgraduate advising has been established. This circle, which meets four times a year, aims to be:
- a support group for postgraduate advisors (especially less experienced postgraduate advisors)
- a practical group that can learn from experienced postgraduate advisors about solving real problems in postgraduate advising
- a focus group that will undertake potential action learning projects on postgraduate advising
- a proactive group that will develop tangible outcomes - like educational research and joint publications
- an interdisciplinary action and research group working on postgraduate advising.
Dr Catherine Manathunga (TEDI/UQ Graduate School) facilitates
the group.
