Supervision Experience Evaluation (SEE)

About the Survey

The Supervision Experience Evaluation survey is available to evaluate research higher degree students’ experience of the research environment and supervision processes.  It should be completed at a school-level to preserve the anonymity of student responses.

The Supervision Experience Evaluation (SEE) is a comprehensive survey designed to evaluate research higher degree (RHD) programs. It is split into two sections: (A) Administrative matters and work environment; and (B) Supervisory process.

Many schools now complete this evaluation annually as part of the process of reviewing the research higher degree program.  It provides helpful data for School Reviews.

The Scales and Items

Students are required to rate their level of agreement with each item using a 5-point Likert scale that ranges between Strongly Disagree and Strongly Agree. They are also given the opportunity to provide open-ended comments.

Ordering an SEE

To order a SEE for your School or for more information about this service, visit the contacts page

Administering the SEE

After receiving your enquiry we will send you a master copy of the questionnaire and the number of reply paid envelopes you require. You will need to copy the questionnaire.

When photocopying the questionnaire please make sure it is:

  • photocopied back-to-back with no staples,
  • photocopied on standard 80gsm white paper,
  • centred on the page so that the black boxes appear fully and squarely in the four corners, and
  • clear of marks, smudges, or lines.

You will need to distribute a copy of the questionnaire and a reply paid envelope to each student. Students return the completed questionnaire directly to us using the reply paid envelope.

The SEE reports

We will ask you to set a deadline for questionnaire returns. Once we have reached this date we will clean the completed questionnaires, scan them, and generate a report. The report will provide a summary of each of the focus areas and will also provide basic statistics about each item.

Reports are returned to the Chair of the School Teaching and Learning Committee for distribution as relevant.
